Academic staff of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have secured top leadership positions at the 34th Annual Conference of the Rural Sociological Association of Nigeria (RuSAN), held at the University of Ibadan from October 6 to 10, 2025.
Professor Olayiwola Fasoranti of FUOYE’s Department of Sociology was elected President of RuSAN, while Professor Ogunjimi of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development was appointed General Secretary. Dr. (Mrs.) Olajumoke Alabi became Assistant General Secretary.
The conference, themed “Advancing Rural Sociology and Agricultural Transformation in Nigeria,” brought together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss rural development challenges and opportunities. FUOYE’s success at the event highlights the institution’s growing influence in national academic circles.
Professor Fasoranti pledged to focus on mentorship, research collaboration, and evidence-based policy engagement to strengthen the link between sociological research and rural development practice.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Fasina, congratulated the staff, describing their election as a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community impact.
With these appointments, FUOYE is set to play a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s rural development strategies and reinforcing the importance of sociological research in national policy.
