The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a coordinated protest across Lagos, Asaba, and Abuja on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, to demand the revitalisation of Nigeria’s petroleum industry. The demonstration, starting at 8:00 a.m., is aimed at confronting what the student body described as attempts to sabotage the country’s refineries.
In a statement signed by NANS President Comrade Olushola Oladoja, the association highlighted Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel despite abundant crude oil reserves, calling the situation “a national embarrassment” that worsens poverty and inflation.
NANS said the protest would underscore the urgent need for fully functional refineries to stabilise energy prices, strengthen the naira, create jobs, and boost industrial productivity. The student body warned that any deliberate obstruction of refinery development would be met with resistance.
The Lagos protest will converge at Iyana Oworo, Asaba, at Koka Junction, and Abuja at Unity Fountain. NANS urged civil society, youth groups, and labour unions to join the peaceful action, emphasising that the movement seeks accountability and reform, not disruption.
Oladoja stated that the nationwide warning action marks the start of a broader campaign to defend Nigeria’s energy sovereignty and ensure efficient operation of both public and private refineries.
