The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged stakeholders in the petroleum sector to stop hostilities targeting the Dangote Refinery, describing it as a national asset vital to Nigeria’s development.
The call follows a publication reportedly issued by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), highlighting disputes between the refinery and other industry groups.
In a statement signed by its national president, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, NANS expressed concern over repeated conflicts involving the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Oladoja stated that the refinery, with a 650,000-barrel-per-day capacity, has reduced Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel, stabilised the supply, and created thousands of jobs. He added that savings from reduced imports are being redirected to sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, and education.
“The Dangote Refinery is not just a private venture; it strengthens energy security, drives industrial growth, and positions Nigeria as a refining hub in Africa,” the statement read. NANS called on all parties to resolve disputes and protect the facility for the collective benefit of Nigerians.
