ASUP Declares Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic has announced an indefinite strike, effective Tuesday, September 30, 2025, due to unresolved demands related to the Polytechnic’s Salary Structure and other welfare issues.

The action comes three months after the union staged a one-week warning strike in June, following a two-week ultimatum issued in May. The earlier strike also centred on salary structure and the retirement age for non-teaching staff.

Union officials stated that repeated attempts to engage with management and government authorities had failed to resolve their concerns. “We are left with no option but to declare an indefinite strike in pursuit of justice, fairness, and the implementation of the Polytechnic Salary Structure,” the chapter stated.

The strike is expected to halt academic and administrative activities at the institution, raising concerns among students and parents about potential disruptions to the academic calendar. ASUP has called on stakeholders to intervene to prevent a prolonged impact on students’ education.
