The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned the federal government to resolve its unresolved demands within 14 days, or risk a fresh strike. The ultimatum was issued following the meeting of the ASUU National Executive Council on Sunday at the University of Abuja.
ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, said the government has neglected the university system and failed to honour previous agreements. The union expressed disappointment over the federal government’s negative attitude towards addressing issues affecting staff welfare, funding, and the overall quality of education in public universities.
The union’s warning signals that academic activities in Nigerian universities may soon be disrupted if the government does not act promptly. This comes after years of intermittent strikes that have stalled students’ education and affected national development. ASUU’s statement underscores the urgent need for the federal government to engage meaningfully with university staff to avoid another prolonged industrial action.
