The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have extended their strike ultimatum to the Federal Government by two weeks.
In a circular to members, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the two unions stated that the extension followed a meeting with Abel Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, on September 19.
The unions explained that although the government set up a joint consultative committee to review their demands, no concrete resolution has been reached.
Signed by SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi, the statement said the new deadline, effective from September 23, would give the government more time to address their grievances.
The unions had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum over unresolved issues relating to welfare, funding, and other entitlements.
