The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government 30 days to meet a list of outstanding welfare and policy demands affecting its members.
The resolutions were contained in a communique signed on Sunday by NARD President Mohammad Suleiman; Secretary-General Shuaibu Ibrahim; and Publicity and Social Secretary Abdulmajid Ibrahim, at the close of the association’s 45th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Katsina State.
The demands include payment of salary arrears, settlement of promotion entitlements, reinstatement of five sacked doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and immediate release of corrected professional allowance tables.
NARD also pressed for implementation of a one-for-one replacement policy to address staff shortages and a review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), which has been stagnant for over 16 years.
Effective October 1, 2025, the association directed its members to desist from working more than 24 consecutive hours of call duty, in line with international best practices.
It further condemned worsening brain drain, poor hospital infrastructure, casualisation of doctors, and the exclusion of house officers from the Civil Service Scheme.
The communique also urged the government to implement special pension benefits for doctors, regularise employment processes, and ensure that CONMESS circulars are applied across all institutions. It called on the Oyo State government to address pending welfare issues at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
NARD warned that failure to meet its demands within the ultimatum could result in industrial action.
