The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is in talks with Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria and the African Institute for Solutions and Development (AISD) on a new partnership to boost the quality of basic education in Nigeria.
UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, announced the discussions on Friday via her official X account after meeting the delegation in Abuja. The proposed partnership will support the World Bank–backed HOPE Project, one of UBEC’s flagship programmes aimed at improving access, quality, and infrastructure in basic education. According to Garba, the framework offers “practical, evidence-based solutions” including ready-to-use teaching toolkits, technical expertise, and staff training to strengthen UBEC’s capacity nationwide.
She said the parties share a vision of promoting quality education and sustainable development through research and innovation, noting that AISD’s studies on out-of-school children would help UBEC develop data-driven interventions. Garba stressed the importance of accurate data in tackling Nigeria’s education challenges and reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to ensuring “no child is left behind.”
