Something new is happening in Nigerian schools. Teachers are now using computers and phones to plan their lessons instead of writing on paper with a pen and ink. These new tools, known as e-lesson plans, are helping teachers teach more effectively and enabling students to learn more efficiently.
In the past, many teachers in public schools spent hours writing lesson notes in books. It was slow, stressful, and challenging to change if needed. However, with e-lesson plans, teachers can now easily create, edit, and send their lessons online. This makes the work easier and faster. Some states, such as Lagos and Ogun, are already using this new method. People in Oyo State are hoping that Governor Seyi Makinde will also implement e-lesson plans in all public schools in the state. This move will help make Oyo State a leader in modern education.
A teacher in Ibadan, Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, said, “E-lesson plans have made my work easier. I can now prepare my lessons quickly. I also add videos and pictures that help my students understand better.” Students also enjoy the new way of learning. Many of them are already used to using phones, watching videos, and learning online. E-lesson plans enable teachers to utilise short videos, pictures, and quizzes that make learning enjoyable and easy to remember.
“I like the way we learn now. A 13-year-old student in Abeokuta. “We watch videos that explain topics and play learning games in class,” said Tobi. E-lesson plans also help the government and schools save money. They no longer need to spend as much money on paper and printing. All the lesson plans are stored online and can be accessed at any time. This helps the government know how schools are doing and what they need.
Some people worry that teachers in rural areas may not be familiar with computer use. However, experts say teachers can be trained. Dr. Omolara Ajayi, an education expert, said, “Teachers do not need to be computer experts. With small training, they can learn how to use e-lesson plans.”
Many rural teachers already send their documents online to the Ministry of Education. Therefore, if they receive more support, they can also benefit from the advantages of e-lesson plans. This change is not just about technology. It is about improving Nigeria’s schools. When teachers use better tools, they teach better. When students enjoy learning, they tend to perform better in school. E-lesson plans are suitable for everyone, teachers, students, schools, and even the environment. It is time for all schools, in cities and villages, to start using them. The future of teaching in Nigeria is no longer far away. It is already here, and it is digital.
