A non-governmental group, IA-Foundation, has enrolled 100 street children from Mafoluku, Oshodi, into schools as part of its Children’s Day outreach in Lagos.
The group stated that the move was intended to help children from low-income families in remote areas access education.
Founder and CEO of the foundation, Ibironke Adeagbo, stated during the event on Tuesday that the initiative aimed to reduce poverty and insecurity, which she attributed to the high number of uneducated children on the streets.
“We cannot afford to ignore these children. Leaving them on the streets only increases poverty and insecurity in the country,” Adeagbo said.
She urged greater collaboration between NGOs and the government, especially in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on providing inclusive and quality education for all.
Adeagbo described the foundation’s outreach as “a call to action” and a reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
She noted that the 100 children were introduced to a safe space filled with care, where they were inspired through talks on the power of education.
