Ibadan residents have been gripped by outrage after a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student delivered a baby allegedly fathered by her biological father, 43-year-old Kayode Oluwaseyifunmi.
The disturbing case, first exposed by Radio Nigeria, led to the girl being moved to an orphanage for safety. While there, she went into premature labour and was rushed to hospitals in Molete, Yemetu Adeoyo, and Ring Road. However, all reportedly declined to manage her case due to the severe risks tied to her young age and fragile health.
She was later taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where doctors carried out a Cesarean section. Both mother and child survived but were immediately placed on oxygen to stabilise them.
The incident has sparked anger across Oyo State. However, it has also raised critical questions about child protection and Nigeria’s weak social welfare system. Police have confirmed the arrest of the father, who now faces prosecution.
