The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has pledged to support the economic and governance reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by an ICAN delegation, led by its president, Haruna Yahaya, to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in Abuja.
Mr Yahaya praised the ministry’s efforts to improve public communication and transparency, saying trust in government was essential for reforms to succeed. He said ICAN would use its platforms, including its nationwide ICAN on the Air programme, to explain government policies in simpler terms, promote financial literacy and encourage ethical governance.
The minister urged the institute to play an active role in supporting the administration’s reform drive, particularly ahead of a new tax policy set to take effect in January 2026. He said President Tinubu’s agenda was focused on fiscal discipline, economic transformation, digitisation and accountability.
Mr Idris said collaboration with professional bodies such as ICAN was vital to ensure citizens understood government policies. He offered the institute access to public information channels to support financial education, ethical leadership campaigns and public awareness of reforms.
He also commended ICAN’s role in promoting professional standards in both the public and private sectors, describing it as key to strengthening national institutions.
