The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), in collaboration with Baze University, Abuja, has outlined strategies to bridge the digital divide and connect underserved populations worldwide.
This formed the core of discussions when the local organising committee of the IEEE Connecting the Unconnected Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CTU-EMEA) Summit 2025 paid a courtesy visit to Baze University management ahead of the upcoming summit.
Chair of the committee, Okafor, described the event as a milestone for Africa’s digital transformation. “This is the first time Nigeria will host a major IEEE CTU international summit of this scale,” he said.
“We are bringing together over 200 global leaders, ministers, regulators, CEOs and tech innovators, to tackle the challenge of connecting 2.9 billion unconnected people, with emphasis on African-led solutions.”
The summit aims to foster collaboration among governments, academia and industry stakeholders to accelerate inclusive access to digital infrastructure and opportunities across the continent.
