Igbobi College in Yaba, Lagos, has seen improvements to its student hostels following donations from the school’s alumni from the classes of 1970–74 and 1976, marking their 55th anniversary. The upgrades included 40 new bunk beds, five single beds, and storage cabinets, benefiting 85 students.
The alumni began the celebration with a thanksgiving service at the Rev. Canon Reginald Parker Memorial Chapel. Pastor Nwachukwu Nzegwu, a member of the set, encouraged former and current students to remain grateful and trust in God for the future. He emphasised that success extends beyond academic achievement and social connections.
Dr Adewunmi Bero, chairman of the alumni set, said the initiative was a way of giving back to the school that shaped them. Contributions for the project came from alumni in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and North America.
“This effort celebrates 55 years since we joined Form One. We hope it improves student welfare and comfort, and we plan to continue supporting our alma mater in the future,” Bero said.
