The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has commissioned a new water project designed to enhance the welfare of its staff and students. The project was officially unveiled by the Enugu State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Dr Felix Nnamani, aligning with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s developmental agenda for the state.
The project, which includes a newly constructed 10,000-litre water storage tank, stands as a testament to the practical leadership of Rector Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, who has mirrored Governor Mbah’s people-centred and results-driven approach in addressing critical needs within the institution.
Speaking during the unveiling, Dr Felix Nnamani, Hon. Commissioner for Water Resources, Enugu State, expressed gratitude to Governor Mbah for the transformative strides in water production, transmission, and distribution across Enugu State. He stated that, “Governor Peter Mbah-led administration is currently generating 70 million litres of water daily from the 9th Mile 24/7 facility and 50 million litres from the Oji augmentation stations, making a total of 120 million litres produced daily for the use and consumption of the people of Enugu State”. He went further to note that while production is being done correctly, Governor Mbah has approved a new transmission line to double the existing one, with reticulation ongoing across 10 zones of the Enugu metropolis, and household connections also approved by the Governor to ensure steady and equitable water distribution across the state.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Nwachukwu Christian Okeke, lauded Prof. Ogbodo for his commitment to excellence, describing the Rector’s leadership as a turning point for IMT. Drawing from his experience serving three Vice Chancellors who once used the Rector’s office while it served as the ESUT Vice Chancellor’s office, Prof. Okeke expressed confidence that Prof. Ogbodo is poised to become the best Rector IMT has ever had.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Igwesi, the Igwe of Obuofia Awkunanaw and Chairman of the Nkanu East Traditional Rulers Council, praised Governor Mbah as “the best that has ever happened to Enugu State,” while praying for continued blessings on the Governor and the Rector for their transformative leadership.
Reacting, Prof. Ogbodo reaffirmed IMT’s alignment with Governor Mbah’s vision, anchored in strategic planning and prudent resource management, noting that the water project is only the beginning of broader plans to ensure steady access to clean water across all parts of the institution for both staff and students. “IMT is keying into the bigger dream of His Excellency, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, which is anchored on strategic planning and management of scarce resources for the good of our people. We will do our best to expand the water project to every part of the Institute,” the Rector assured.
