The education sector has experienced insecurity in Niger and other states, prompting calls for stakeholders to intervene and protect children’s future.
A study commissioned by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed that the education system in Zamfara, Katsina, and Niger States is affected by insurgency, student and teacher displacement, learning disruption, and infrastructure destruction. Speaking with newsmen, Usaini Baba, the Education Secretary, Shiroro Local Government, Niger State, said the area has experienced diverse security issues, causing the closure of schools, while some have now been reopened.
