Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of JAMB
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has apologised to the House of Representatives for the unruly behaviour of a senior Board official during a recent investigative hearing.
Oloyede appeared before the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies to submit the requested documents, marking his first engagement since the October incident.
The controversy arose when JAMB Director Mr Mufutau Bello, representing the Registrar, walked out after attempting to prevent journalists from attending the public hearing.
Oloyede dissociated the Board from Bello’s actions, reaffirming his respect for the National Assembly and assuring that such incidents would not recur. “I have enormous respect for the Parliament,” he said.
Committee Chairman Hon. Oboku Oforji condemned the behaviour as an affront to the Legislature and reminded the Board that Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution empower the National Assembly to conduct oversight over agencies.
The probe, initiated after complaints during the 2025 UTME, covers JAMB’s budget implementation, internally generated revenue, remittances and bank statements.
Oforji emphasised that the inquiry is a constitutional duty aimed at transparency and public accountability, urging full cooperation from JAMB and other agencies.
