The Jigawa State Government has approved projects worth over ₦2.5 billion to strengthen three critical sectors in the state- education, agriculture, and energy. The decision was reached at the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar A. Namadi.
In the education sector, ₦869.6 million will be allocated for renovating seven model Tsangaya schools, building 30 recitation halls, and constructing 30 reading shades to enhance Islamic education for Almajiri pupils. The council also approved ₦1.54 billion for bursary payments to 22,388 students studying in 83 tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
A further ₦835 million was earmarked for the state’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to equip youths with practical skills. At the same time, ₦779.2 million will provide teaching materials and mobility support for school supervision in all 27 local councils.
For agriculture, the council allocated ₦396 million to subsidise 12,000 bags of NPK fertiliser, which will be sold to smallholder farmers at ₦33,000 per bag to boost food production.
