A respected Islamic law professor, AbdulRazzaq Abdulmajeed Alaro, has urged Nigerian judges and lawyers to avoid bribery and corruption. He said this during a book launch in Ilorin on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The event was held to celebrate works written by Justice Saliu Olohuntoyin Muhammad, a retired Grand Kadi of Kwara State.
Prof. Alaro, who is also a consultant to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said Nigeria’s judiciary is no longer the “last hope of the common man.” According to him, it now seems to favour only the rich and powerful, with some judgments allegedly influenced by bribes. He called on legal professionals to follow the examples of Justice Muhammad and Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN), whom he praised for their honesty and professionalism. Prof. Alaro believes fighting corruption is the only way to restore respect to the country’s legal system.
