The University of Ilorin grandly marked its 50th anniversary by honouring 65 individuals with special awards. Held on July 16, 2025, at the university’s auditorium, the event was full of glamour and joy. Awards were given to top alumni, respected professionals, and friends of the school.
The highlight of the ceremony was when three of the distinguished honourees—Dr Tunji Olowolafe, Dr Murtadha Adeniji, and Dr Abdulwahab Adebayo (AWA) Ibrahim—donated a total of ₦600 million to support the university. The largest donors were Olowolafe and Adeniji, who each contributed ₦250 million, while Ibrahim donated ₦100 million on behalf of himself and nine others.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole said the event was to express gratitude to those who have supported the school and to encourage them to continue. He also announced plans to unveil three big projects soon. Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede promised that they would continue to support the university and help it grow.
