The Kaduna State College of Education has become one of the first institutions in Nigeria to deploy the TETFund Blackboard Learning Management System.
The platform, developed in partnership with education technology company Anthology Blackboard, is designed to improve online teaching and learning in public tertiary institutions. Unveiled in 2023, the project aims to standardise digital education across 253 institutions, with more than two million students and staff expected to be enrolled nationwide.
The system was launched at the college’s School of Secondary Education, Kafanchan campus, following a training programme for staff sponsored by TETFund. The school has been selected as the pilot site for the initiative.
Anthology’s Vice President for Middle East Africa, Nicolas Alboouze, described the launch as “the beginning of a new chapter for Nigerian higher education”, adding that the platform would ensure “no student is left behind, no lecturer is left unsupported”.
College officials said the system would improve teaching methods, strengthen student engagement, and better prepare graduates for a technology-driven future. All government-owned tertiary institutions are required to adopt the Blackboard platform by the end of 2025.
