Dr. Kene Ojukwu, Canadian-based Anambra-born medical doctor
Canadian-based Anambra-born medical doctor, Dr Kene Ojukwu, has recognised seven outstanding medical students from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) College of Medicine, awarding each ₦100,000 for exceptional performance in foundational and clinical courses.
The awards, presented through the Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative (CKOI) Foundation, covered top achievers in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Internal Medicine.
During the induction of newly graduated doctors, the Foundation also donated ₦500,000 to the College of Medicine to support its mission of producing competent healthcare professionals. Speaking through the Foundation Manager, Mr Sylvester Ojiugo, Dr Ojukwu described the awards as a deliberate effort to spotlight “unsung heroes” among graduates and inspire them to pursue excellence.
Addressing the honourees, he urged them to cultivate self-reflection, define long-term goals, and uphold integrity, professionalism, and resilience, stressing that setbacks are stepping stones, not barriers.
The Foundation founder expressed confidence that the recipients will serve as role models and reaffirmed CKOI’s commitment to youth empowerment and advancing medical education in Nigeria.
College authorities commended the initiative, noting its positive impact on nurturing future medical leaders.
