Kwara State University (KWASU) says its infrastructure expansion is accelerating following the approval of a ₦1 billion TETFund Special Intervention to complete its University Library Annexe.
The Vice-Chancellor, Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, made this known during a media briefing ahead of the institution’s 13th convocation ceremony in Malete.
Jimoh said the University is rolling out new structures while strengthening maintenance across its campuses. He added that all 11 faculties now operate ultramodern smart classrooms to drive a more efficient teaching and learning system.
He noted that the Experience Centre, donated by the Office of the First Lady in partnership with TETFund, is nearing completion. At the same time, the Central Laboratory funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria has reached an advanced stage.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that construction of the Faculty of Law building is progressing and will provide additional classrooms and office space upon completion.
He also confirmed that the school, through a PPP arrangement with Rangeman Construction Ltd., has delivered a new 150-room, 600-bed hostel that is already in use.
Jimoh highlighted the rising research success at KWASU, noting that scholars such as Mustapha Kabiru and Adesina Lambe Mutalub from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology recently secured National Research Fund (NRF) grants.
He added that the University’s entrepreneurship programme continues to equip students with emerging skills to help them transition into job creators.
He further disclosed that KWASU runs four Centres for Women Development across Ilorin, Osi, Ilesha-Baruba, and Malete, where 125 women have been trained and graduated in fashion and cap-making. Beneficiaries received industrial sewing machines, Android phones, and mentorship support to grow their small businesses.
Jimoh said 8,119 students will graduate at this year’s convocation ceremony, including 82 first-class graduates.
