The Chairman of Somolu Local Government Area, Lagos State, Hon Lateef Ashimi, has pledged to place education and community cohesion at the centre of the council’s development agenda.
Ashimi made the commitment on Thursday during a meeting with the Somolu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) and other stakeholders. The talks focused on completing ongoing school reconstruction projects, improving welfare for pupils and staff, and providing transport support to ease daily commutes.
Education Secretary Hon. Dare Martins urged the council to fast-track school projects, noting their importance to both pupils and teachers. Ashimi assured that the concerns would be addressed in the upcoming initiatives.
In a separate engagement, the council boss met with the Council of Imam Ratibis and Alfas of Somolu, led by Alhaji Muhammad Taofeeq Olumegbon. He called for peaceful coexistence among religious groups, stressing that fairness and tolerance were essential for progress in the community.
The meetings were followed by a show of support from key political leaders, including APC State Financial Secretary Asipa Wasiu Doyin Banjo and local party chairmen, who encouraged Ashimi to remain focused on service delivery.
