The Lagos State Government has announced plans to train teachers and part-time instructors on robotics education as it prepares to introduce the subject in schools.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Ali-Balogun, revealed this during the 2025 World Robots Olympiad Nigeria national competition held in Lagos. He said the state will begin a “train-the-trainers” programme to equip teachers with the skills needed to teach robotics effectively.
Ali-Balogun explained that the federal government is already updating the national curriculum to include robotics as a subject, describing it as “the future.” He added that, while the curriculum review is ongoing, states are still awaiting the official guidelines to implement it fully. The initiative aims to ensure Lagos students are not left behind in technological education and are well-prepared for the digital future.
