At Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), music and memories blended in harmony as colleagues, students, and family gathered to celebrate the retirement of Mr Oyesiku Oluwafunmilola, a revered music educator who turned 65 and bowed out after decades of service.
The tribute concert, held at the newly commissioned Music Recital Hall in Oto/Ijanikin, was more than a farewell—it was a testament to the quiet influence of a teacher who turned classrooms into creative sanctuaries.
Dr S. O. Babalola, Head of Department, described Mr Oyesiku as “a model of dedication and artistic integrity,” noting his significant role in shaping the Department of Music Education since its early days. “His legacy is not only in the notes and performances but in the minds he enriched,” he said.
Guests recalled a soft-spoken mentor whose humility belied an unwavering commitment to professionalism. As student ensembles performed in his honour, the room swelled with emotion—a fitting climax to a career defined by service, structure, and song.
