LASUED Inducts New Theatre Arts Students at ‘Okàn Kàn’ Ceremony
The Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, under the College of Humanities Education at Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), conducted its annual induction ceremony for 100-level students on Friday, December 5 2025.
The event, themed “Okàn Kàn” (“One Heart”), was held at Oluremi Tinubu Hall on the Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus and attracted students, staff, parents, and guests.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. M. A. Shittu, urged the inductees to take pride in their chosen profession.
He encouraged them to maximise available resources, commit to hard work, and pursue excellence, assuring them of the University’s ongoing support. He also praised lecturers and parents for their dedication and congratulated the College and Department for organising a successful ceremony.
The Head of Department, Dr Afeez Oyetoro, emphasised that the theatre profession demands discipline and dedication, noting that “hard work is the profit in this profession.” Chief Priest for the ceremony, Mr Segun Adefila, advised students to approach their craft seriously, warning that theatre is not for the faint-hearted.
He encouraged them to remain intellectually resilient and embrace theatre as a comprehensive and transformative way of life.
