The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, says it will work with the Nigeria Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of one of its students.
The student, identified as Ridwan Oladipupo, was a 300-level undergraduate in the Department of Agricultural Engineering. He was reported dead under unclear circumstances on June 24, 2025. In a statement released on Wednesday by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, the university expressed sadness over the incident and said efforts were ongoing to uncover the truth.
According to the statement, Oladipupo left his off-campus hostel on June 24 to study at an undisclosed location but did not return. On June 25, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs was contacted by the Divisional Police Officer of Owode Division, informing the university of the discovery of a corpse in front of Nurudeen Grammar School, Under-G Road, Ogbomoso.
Initial efforts by the police and the university to identify the body were unsuccessful, as neither students nor residents of the area could recognise it. The body was later moved to the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital mortuary. The university stated that no formal report was submitted to it at the time. On June 29, the deceased’s father reportedly visited his son’s hostel, accompanied by a police officer. The statement said hostel occupants were interrogated, but no official representation has been made to the university as of now. The registrar added that, since the case is under police investigation, the university would not make further comments to avoid interfering with the ongoing inquiries.
