The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has suspended academic activities at its Iseyin campus for two weeks following the death of a 200-level student of Agricultural Economics.
The student reportedly died after being hit by a speeding vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The incident, which occurred in Iseyin town, sparked outrage as students staged protests, demanding justice and improved safety on campus.
In a statement, the Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, described the tragedy as a devastating loss to the university community and extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
She said the suspension was to allow students and staff to recover from the emotional toll of the incident. Students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to resume classes on November 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, security agencies in Iseyin have launched an investigation to apprehend the fleeing driver responsible for the fatal accident.
