Madonna University, Nigeria, has announced plans to confer an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration on Mr Bayo Adedeji, Group CEO of Wakanow, one of West Africa’s leading travel and ticketing companies.
The announcement was made during a visit by the university’s management team to Wakanow’s headquarters, where they presented Adedeji with a formal invitation ahead of the conferment ceremony later this year.
The recognition is a rare one — Madonna University has not awarded this honorary PhD in the past decade. Only two individuals are being honoured this year, with Adedeji topping the list.
University officials described the award as a celebration of “impact, excellence, and visionary leadership,” noting that the Wakanow CEO has created more than 2,000 jobs through his work in the travel and tech sectors. “This honour is not about wealth but about contribution to society,” one of the representatives said.
Adedeji, widely known for driving innovation in Africa’s travel industry, said the gesture humbled him. “This recognition reminds me that hard work and consistency truly speak for themselves,” he said. “It is a push to keep doing more for society and for the continent.”
