The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State, to commence academic activities effective November 4, 2025.
The development was confirmed by the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Science and Computing, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu, who congratulated the university’s management and commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the institution’s founders, for their dedication to advancing quality education.
Aremu, the First African UNESCO Laureate, said the approval followed the university’s successful fulfilment of all NUC requirements. He described Minaret University as a faith-based institution committed to entrepreneurial, ethical and community-oriented education.
The university will begin operations with two faculties — Science and Computing, and Management and Social Sciences — offering programmes such as Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration.
Aremu expressed optimism that Minaret University would become a hub for innovation and character development, adding that it represents a significant milestone in the Ahmadiyya Community’s contribution to national development.
