A three-member delegation from the Ministerial Monitoring Committee visited the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Monday, July 12, 2025, to assess its readiness for the implementation of the TETFund 2025 High-Impact Intervention Projects for Medical Colleges.
The visit is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to expand capacity in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and dentistry across 18 selected universities. Backed by a N4 billion special fund, the initiative aims to double student intake in health-related programmes by improving infrastructure and training standards.
Led by Professor Sulyman Alabi, the committee included Arc. Erivwo Inene, Director of TETFund Special Intervention, and Mrs. Sa’adatu Jimoh. They were received by Professor Bola Oboh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) of UNILAG, alongside other top management staff. Professor Oboh reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the Federal Government’s agenda, noting that proposals had already been submitted in line with project guidelines.
The delegation inspected the TETFund Presidential Special Intervention Building, labs, and training facilities at the College of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy. The committee reviewed UNILAG’s documentation and architectural plans, which are prerequisites for project approval.
Professor Alabi described the visit as a compliance check to ensure academic relevance and alignment with national development goals. He praised UNILAG’s preparedness and called the university a model for effective implementation. The leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola was commended for fostering institutional cohesion and strategic vision.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to scaling up healthcare education and equipping public universities to meet Nigeria’s rising demand for skilled professionals.
