The Ondo State Police have arrested Dorcas Asije, the mother of a student writing the WASSCE, and four others for attacking a vice principal.
The vice principal, Mr Rotifa of Complete Child Development College in Aule, Akure North, caught Asije’s son trying to cheat and took his phone. Angry, Asije is said to have hired some men to attack the vice principal.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday. He said the Deputy Commissioner of Police, following orders from Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi, led a team to apprehend those involved quickly.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and it will be charged to court after the investigation is concluded,” Ayanlade stated. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.
In response to the incident, the Ondo State Government has stated that it strongly condemns any act of violence and examination malpractice. Mr Akindele Ige of the Ministry of Education, in a statement delivered by Director Olaoluwa Meshack, emphasised the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward cheating, thuggery, and any form of misconduct among students.
“The Ondo State Government stands firm in its commitment to uphold the integrity of our education system. We will not tolerate examination malpractice and will ensure that all offenders are held accountable,” Ige said.
