NAOSS Elects New National Executives at Convention

The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) held its national convention on Thursday at the Ogun State Secretariat of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Abeokuta, culminating in the election of new executives to lead the association for the next three years.

Delegates from tertiary institutions across Nigeria attended, with observers including Akinbodunse Sileola Felicia, National Vice President of NANS for Inter-Campus and Gender Affairs.

Olubodun Olalekan of Ondo State University of Science and Technology emerged as the new NAOSS National President, securing 73 votes, while Dare Ogunbanwo of the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, received 21.

The election, conducted under tight security by the Nigerian Police, DSS, NSCDC, and VGN, was described as peaceful and orderly by Convention Chairman Ogunrombi Gbemileke.

Other newly elected executives include Musari Wale (Vice President 1), Hassan Olamilekan (Vice President 2), Adesanya Peter (General Secretary), Arikewuyo Feranmi (Public Relations Officer), Oseni Oluwaseun (Assistant General Secretary 1), Akinsanya Ibrahim (Assistant General Secretary 2), Ogunsan Joshua (Senate President), and Ige Jide (Clerk). Additional positions will be filled at the first Senate sitting of the new leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Olubodun pledged to uphold unity, protect students’ rights, support educational reforms, and resist any attempts to politicise or destabilise the association.

He also urged the Ogun State Government to prioritise bursary awards and scholarship schemes for deserving NAOSS members, promising that the association will remain a strong and independent voice for all Ogun indigene students.
