The Executive Director, National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Prof Mohammed Rabiu Hassan, says the remarkable achievements of Ahmadu Bello University Staff School speak volumes about ABU’s commitment to quality education.
Speaking as Chairman of the Occasion at the school’s 35th Speech and Prize–Giving Day, Prof Hassan said the school had set a standard of excellence that would continue to inspire. “The recent integration of NAPRI Staff School as an ABU Staff School Annexe and an increase in pupil intake from 220 to 440 in one academic session demonstrates our commitment to expanding access to quality education,” he said.
The NAPRI Executive Director, who was represented by the Assistant Director, Extension and Linkages, NAPRI, Dr Y M Ishiaku, stressed that education must go beyond textbooks by emphasising skills and innovation in today’s rapidly evolving world. Hassan described as “irreplaceable” the roles of parents and guardians in educating their children. He also said the values they nurtured at home – respect, responsibility, and resilience – formed the bedrock of the children’s character. Prof Hassan equally thanked the school management for their tireless dedication and urged them to continue to be the beacons of knowledge and character formation.
He reminded the pupils that the occasion was not the end of the journey but a milestone in their lifelong journey of learning and growth. In his presentation at the occasion, the guest speaker, Prof. Aminu Ahmed Muhammad, spoke on the ‘Importance and Relevance of Teaching Agricultural Science in Primary School’. Prof Muhammad, who is the Head of the Department of Agronomy, Ahmadu Bello University, described agricultural science education as a pathway to secure a brighter future for the younger ones. He maintained that teaching agricultural science in primary schools was not only important but also urgent and essential.
