NBA Condemns Students’ Abduction

The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the abduction of 303 students and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State.

Responding to the issue, they wrote, “That hundreds of children and teachers could be seized in broad daylight and moved without immediate interception is an indictment of our national security framework. Once again, families are shattered, communities are traumatised, and our collective confidence in the ability of the State to protect life is gravely shaken.”

Clarifying their stance on the issue, they stated that the NBA fully aligns with the United Nations’ call for implementing the Safe Schools Declaration, which Nigeria is committed to.
They noted that the commitment must now be seen through visible action rather than mere symbolic reaffirmations.

The association has thereby made specific demands from the government to manage insecurity in the country, including facilitating the return of all the abducted students and teachers.
