In preparations for its transition from paper-based examinations to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), the National Examinations Council (NECO) has launched a large-scale recruitment drive to actualise its goal.
The reform will commence with the November/December 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, marking a significant milestone in the modernisation of Nigeria’s examination system.
As part of the process, NECO is inviting applications from qualified operators to serve as Computer-Based Examination Centres. According to the Council, centres must meet strict requirements, including a minimum of 150 functional computers or laptops, with an additional 10 per cent backup. Each system must be equipped with at least a dual-core Celeron/Pentium processor, 4GB RAM, a minimum 32GB SSD (Windows 10), and up-to-date web browsers.
Other mandatory facilities include 15- or 17-inch monitors, a robust server capable of supporting all connected devices, and reliable power backup systems such as a 40 kVA generator and UPS/inverters to sustain operations for at least three hours.
In addition, every centre must employ at least two technical support staff and one network engineer to ensure seamless system performance. The recruitment is designed to strengthen NECO’s capacity to deliver credible, technology-driven assessments nationwide.
