The Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP) has commenced construction of a Research and Drug Quality Assurance Centre in Oba, Anambra State. The groundbreaking took place at the Coordinated Wholesale Pharmaceutical Market in Idemili South.
Speaking at the event, NAIP National Chairman, Pharm. Bankole Ezebuilo said the Centre will help stop the spread of fake drugs by testing medicines before they reach the public. He said many drugs in Nigeria pass through wholesale markets, and controlling quality at that level will make a big difference. The Centre will include a drug testing laboratory, cold storage facilities, and training facilities. NAIP is partnering with the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in the Americas to provide lab equipment and pharmacist training.
Anambra State Government has promised full support. The pharmaceutical market is expected to start full operations by November. Top pharmacists and traditional leaders attended the event.
