The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Monday Sinclair, affectionately known as “Professor.” Sinclair, who passed away Wednesday evening, was a former Nigerian international player and one-time interim coach of the Super Eagles.
Known for his extensive knowledge of football, Sinclair played for Nigeria’s senior national team soon after the country gained independence. Later, he became a mentor at the grassroots level, discovering and guiding talented players like goalkeeper Peter Rufai, defender Taribo West, and striker Finidi George.
NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi shared a message of condolence on Thursday. He prayed for comfort for Sinclair’s family, friends, and the coaching community, saying: “We mourn deeply … It is yet another sad day in Nigerian football.” Sinclair served briefly as interim head coach of the Super Eagles in 1997 after Nigeria qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. His impact on the game and player development will be remembered.
