Augustine Univer, Ilara, has partnered with the Teekay Sickle Cell Foundation to organise a Sickle Cell Awareness Campaign, marking World Sickle Cell Day.
The event, held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the University’s Convocation Hall, drew a large turnout of both students and staff, aiming to educate the University community on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The interactive session featured medical experts, testimonies from individuals living with the condition, and on-the-spot genotype counselling.
Speaking at the event, Representatives from Teekay Sickle Cell Foundation emphasised the importance of early diagnosis, public sensitisation, and supportive care for persons living with SCD. They also commended Augustine University for its commitment to community health education and student engagement on social issues.
