NGO Urges Federal-Government to Invest in Mathematics, Science Education

The United Support for Science and Mathematics Project (UNSSM-Project)

The United Support for Science and Mathematics Project (UNSSM-Project), a Non-Governmental organisation (NGO), has urged the Federal Government to invest more in mathematics and science education.

Mr Kelvin Veakpe, Project Facilitator of the UNSSM Project, appealed to the Innovation Day Programme at Coronation Preparatory Academy, Kuje, Kuje Area Council, FCT, Abuja. At the event, 104 students were awarded Ambassadorial Honours in Mathematics. Veakpe disclosed that the group selected the mathematics ambassadors from various schools across the FCT.

He noted that the awards were necessary for upholding the dignity of mathematics and inspiring young minds to venture into such academic paths. Veakpe also urged the government to invest more in these academic subjects. He sated, “The government should focus more on science because our life itself revolves around science. The government needs to investigate this issue because some of the challenges we face today as a nation stem from our inadequate calculations. When discussing calculations, it involves science and mathematics. The government should key into this type of programme and provide avenues for children to showcase their talents and skills.”
