Nigeria has taken a significant step towards technological self-reliance in its security sector through a partnership between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the collaboration, supported by President Bola Tinubu, has produced high-tech security equipment designed to enhance intelligence gathering and nationwide security operations. A new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Abuja, jointly constructed by the two agencies, is equipped with advanced technology to transform security operations.
Halilu explained that the DSS has prioritised local production to reduce dependence on imported equipment, in line with the president’s vision of self-reliance. Both agencies have trained technical experts to manufacture these specialised tools, though specific details remain classified for security reasons.
The DSS Director-General, Oluwatosin Ajayi, said the initiative demonstrates Nigeria’s capacity to develop its own security technologies.
Halilu added that the project’s success could position Nigeria as a leader in security technology in West Africa, boosting regional stability and economic development. He described the partnership as a milestone in promoting self-reliance and innovation in the country’s security systems, reflecting broader government priorities for technological advancement.
