Nigeria’s Teachers Registration Council (TRCN) has signed a partnership with education technology firm GMind AI to roll out an artificial intelligence-powered platform for the country’s teachers.
The initiative, announced in Abuja, will provide lesson plans, assessment tools, and classroom simulations tailored to the national curriculum. Officials say the platform, which works both online and offline, aims to support teachers in urban and rural schools alike. TRCN Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, said the project was designed to make digital teaching resources accessible to all teachers, including those with limited ICT experience.
Under the plan, a pilot involving 50,000 teachers across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones will begin later this year. The platform is expected to reach all 1.5 million licensed educators by the end of 2026. The education ministry estimates the scheme could directly benefit more than 45 million students. Observers say the project reflects growing interest in AI’s role in African classrooms, though questions remain over training, infrastructure, and long-term sustainability.
