Adesola Adegoke bags ‘Digital GreenTalents Award 2025’ in Germany
Nigerian researcher Adesola Adegoke, currently at Arizona State University, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Digital Green Talents Award by the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space. The award recognises young scientists worldwide tackling global sustainability challenges.
Adegoke’s work at ASU’s Salifu Lab focuses on using mycelium—the thread-like root structure of mushrooms—as an alternative, eco-friendly construction material. His research aims to demonstrate how bio-based solutions can make infrastructure development environmentally sustainable.
The award, presented virtually on November 25 during the Digital Green Tech Network Conference in Berlin, places Adegoke among 20 international researchers from countries including India, Canada, Vietnam and Singapore. Dr Rainer Müssner of the German ministry praised the laureates, saying, “Projects will not change the world, but bright minds like you can.”
Awardees benefit from a fully funded three-month research placement at a German institution in 2026, as well as a Summer School near Frankfurt, offering opportunities to collaborate with leading scientists and strengthen international research partnerships.
Reflecting on his achievement, Adegoke said, “This recognition validates not just my research, but the capability of bio-based solutions to address pressing sustainability challenges. I am committed to making sustainable materials a viable option for civil engineering worldwide.”
Since 2009, the Digital Green Talents Award has promoted innovation and global exchange in sustainability and digitalisation, supporting the next generation of environmental researchers.
