The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), in partnership with India’s MIDAS IT, has donated engineering software valued at $17.4 million to 15 Nigerian universities to enhance hands-on learning and modernise engineering education.
NSE President, Margaret Oguntala, announced the donation in Abuja, describing it as a significant step toward bridging the gap between theory and industrial practice.
Beneficiaries include Ahmadu Bello University, the University of Lagos, the University of Benin, the University of Abuja, and Confluence University of Science and Technology, among others.
Oguntala urged universities to utilise these tools to enhance training in civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering, while also encouraging stronger collaboration between academia and industry.
She commended India and MIDAS IT for supporting Nigeria’s technological development, describing the gesture as a model of bilateral cooperation and knowledge exchange.
MIDAS IT’s Managing Director for Africa and the UAE, Naga Anne, stated that the firm’s flagship software, MIDAS GenX, will offer students real-world design experience for buildings, bridges, and other structures.
He added that the partnership would expand to include mechanical engineering software in future phases.
