NSE, MIDAS IT Donate $17.4m Software to Nigerian Universities

Fifteen Nigerian universities have received engineering software packages worth $17.4 million, donated by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in partnership with India’s MIDAS IT.

The handover took place in Abuja, with NSE President Mrs Margaret Oguntala describing the donation as a significant boost for engineering education. The software, aimed at civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering students, will enhance practical design skills and prepare graduates for industry demands.

Benefiting institutions include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Lagos; University of Benin; Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi; University of Abuja; University of Maiduguri; and Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi.

Oguntala urged universities to strengthen links between academia and industry, noting the importance of equipping students with tools to bridge classroom concepts and real-world applications.

MIDAS IT Managing Director for Africa and UAE, Naga Anne, said the donation is part of a broader plan to provide practical software training, with future phases expected to cover mechanical engineering.

Vice-Chancellors of the universities welcomed the support, pledging to leverage the software to train skilled engineers capable of addressing infrastructure challenges and competing globally.
