The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 45 new academic programmes at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Stella Ngozi Lemchi, disclosed this earlier, on August 8, 2025, noting that the approval followed a successful Resource Verification Exercise conducted by a 37-man NUC panel earlier in the year.
According to Lemchi, the newly approved programmes cut across the faculties of Arts, Education, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Vocational and Technical Education. She added that the NUC commended the institution for its “awe-inspiring performance” during the assessment.
“With this approval, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education is now positioned to provide quality higher education and expand academic opportunities for students nationwide,” she stated.
The Vice-Chancellor further hinted that additional programmes are under consideration by the NUC as part of the university’s ongoing academic expansion drive.
Some of the available programmes include: B.A.(Ed.) English studies, B.A. Fine and Applied Arts, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Educational Management, B.Sc. (Ed.) Economics, B.Sc. (Ed.) Geography, B.Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry, B.Sc. (Ed.) Computer Education, B.Sc. (Ed.) Accounting and B.Sc. (Ed.) Agricultural Education.
Applications for admission into the newly approved courses are now open to prospective students across Nigeria and beyond.
