Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has reappointed Prof Asabe Sadiya Mohammed for a second term as Provost of the Aminu Saleh College of Education (ASCOE), Azare, despite opposition from the State House of Assembly.
The decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday involving the governor, the commissioner for higher education, the college’s governing Council, staff unions, student representatives, and members of the State Assembly. The meeting allowed all parties to voice their concerns, after which the governor called for unity and cooperation for institutional progress.
The House of Assembly had earlier opposed the reappointment, citing alleged leadership issues, but Governor Mohammed intervened, urging stakeholders to prioritise the college’s development over personal grievances.
Speaking after her reappointment, Asabe expressed gratitude to the governor and other supporters, describing the renewed mandate as an opportunity to consolidate the achievements of her first term.
She pledged to promote inclusiveness, strengthen academic excellence and advance infrastructural development for the continued growth and stability of the institution.
