Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya
The National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation panel visited Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, on Tuesday to assess nine degree programmes offered in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The exercise, led by Prof. Oyaziwo Aluede, was described as a standard evaluation rather than a witch hunt.
The Provost, Dr Aku Ambi, said the college had intensified preparations, including documentation and staffing, to ensure a smooth accreditation process. He expressed confidence that the institution would meet NUC standards.
The State House of Assembly has already approved a bill authorising the college to operate in a dual mode of awarding degrees and NCEs, pending the governor’s assent.
Dr Jummai Tabat, Deputy Provost, Administration, and chair of the NUC Accreditation Planning Committee, pledged the college management’s full cooperation to facilitate the exercise.
Aluede stated that the panel’s role is to ensure that programmes meet global best practices and that final decisions are made fairly by NUC Abuja.
