The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State chapter, has declared full support for the ongoing indefinite strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), urging the Federal Government to address the union’s 19-point demand without delay.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the state NMA Chairman, Dr Luqman Ogunjimi, stated that the demands reflect “deep-seated challenges affecting doctors’ welfare, medical training, and the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.”
Ogunjimi called on the government to pay outstanding allowances, reverse unjust dismissals, address infrastructure decay, and improve remuneration to retain skilled health workers.
He lamented that only one of NARD’s 19 demands had been met, questioning the government’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
“The Federal Government must treat these demands as a national priority,” Ogunjimi said, describing the strike as a call to rescue Nigeria’s deteriorating health system.
The NMA reassured support for NARD’s leadership under Dr Muhammad Usman Suleiman and urged prompt government action to restore industrial harmony across the nation’s hospitals.
